David’s work seeks to find beauty in chaos.
Playing with shape, light, colour and line, the paintings begin as a reaction or a response to surroundings; the landscape and what occupies it. The paintings go through several stages, distilling the initial inspiration into something new.
I am interested in the process and the action of painting, making marks, and juxtaposing different media. Often there is a battle of sorts on the canvas, a battle between the evolving image and the artist. Layers are added and sometimes glimpses of the past layers can be seen.
In the end the image created is a product of the process, it can take new life and exist detached from all that inspired it.
